Project Evaluation
The best time to hire a project evaluator is at the very beginning -- as you plan and write the grant proposal. Brought in as a member of the team during the planning stages, a grant evaluator can design targeted evaluation tools to provide meaningful program data and feedback. Using a professional evaluator from the beginning can save you money on the final evaluation and on the overall program.
The evaluation component of any program – if it is designed and applied correctly – reflects the ‘temperature and pulse’ of that program.
The data generated via a powerful evaluation component can:
- verify the program accomplished its objectives;
- create opportunities to build on the existing grant award;
- reveal logical connections for follow-on funding, and
- expose weaknesses or vulnerabilities early to allow minor corrections before they have a negative impact on the program.
Most government and many private grant makers require an evaluation of the programs they fund at the conclusion of the grant award period. It is also common for a multi-year grant award to require an annual evaluation in addition to this final evaluation.
As your program unfolds, continuous decision-making driven by accurate data allows you to make minor adjustments en route, correcting challenges early and ensuring the most successful program possible.
Program evaluation is an area of special focus for the Funding Exchange. Our consultants are skilled in their ability to interpret and analyze evaluation data in light of an organization’s unique challenges.
“If you’ve had the experience of bringing up an evaluator from 'Outside' for your project and found they struggled to understand the unique conditions that prevail in Alaska, you’ll appreciate having an experienced Alaska-based evaluator available to help you improve your program in ways that really work.”
